USR's Fritz: If a majority is not possible for a courageous government, let the Romanians decide

National leader of the Save Romania Union (USR) Dominic Fritz on Monday said that Romania needs a "courageous" government that delivers results for the citizens, and if it is not possible to outline a parliamentary majority to support it, perhaps the decision should belong to the public.

"We need a courageous government that delivers for Romanians, not one that protects the privileged under the umbrella of stability. If it is not possible to make a majority for this, maybe it is time to let the Romanians decide. We will then see what remains of the applause of the Socialists," the USR leader wrote in a social media post on Monday.

Fritz also said that those who "hate" USR are afraid of a "just and functional" Romania.

"USR is not a party, says the leader of the AUR [Alliance for the Union of Romanians] senators, but it is a disease, a virus. The idea of removing the USR from the government, says the PSD [Social Democratic Party] secretary general, was celebrated in the PSD meetings with applause and joy as if Romania would have scored at the World Cup. PSD-AUR's hatred towards USR is, in reality, fear of what USR represents: a just and functional Romania for the millions of Romanians who work honestly in this country, without props and without privileges," said Fritz.

He added that USR ministers are taking measures to improve the lives of Romanians.

"They protect forests, invest in critical infrastructure, clean up state-owned companies, digitalise public services, strengthen the country's defence, represent us with dignity in the world. And the world sees. The results of USR are the biggest threat for those who are desperate not to change anything, those who built PSD and AUR as a screen for their own greed. They need air for the world to believe that they are all the same. Diana, Oana, Irineu, Radu are proof that it is possible. That is why they are being attacked so aggressively," the USR leader added.

The national leaders of the parties in the former ruling coalition will meet President Nicusor Dan this morning at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

According to the agenda of the chief of state, he will discuss with the national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Sorin Grindeanu; the national leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Ilie Bolojan; the national leader of the Save Romania Union (USR), Dominic Fritz; the national leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), Kelemen Hunor, and with the leader of the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities, Varujan Pambuccian.
